Access Statement
Introduction
We aim to cater for the needs of all who visit the Brendon Arms. We are a traditional country inn by the sea, the beach is a 5 minute fairly level walk. We have a ramp access of the street to the front of the building and a small 2cm step up to the bars carpeted area inside. We have 9 en-ensuite guest bedrooms, all of which are on the first floor accessed by narrow stairs from the ground floor. The following statement is a summary of our provision. Pre-Arrival
• Public transport supporting Bude from Exeter, Barnstaple and local towns and villages all drop off at the same place in the town, the stop is approximately 10 minute walk from the pub. We can provide the local taxi numbers.
• There is a post office/shop within a 2 minute walk and the main shops in town are less than a 10 minute walk.

Arrival & Car Parking Facilities
• We are on the main road leading out of the town towards Widemouth Bay, over the mini roundabout next to The Falcon Hotel.
• Our car park is across the road, opposite the Brendon Arms, there are no bays marked out but there is ample parking in the car park and also on the street outside the pub. The car park is a flat and fairly even gravel type surface. There is a sloped entrance/exit to pavement and steps in the corner which have a grab rail but the steps are uneven.
• On Arrival to the property there are two entrances’s; one is on the right of the building and the other to the side of the main building down a lit corridor. Both entrances have a sloping pavement of paving slabs and tarmac.
• The accommodation is available after 2pm and as the pub is open all day, check-in is possible through out the day at the lounge bar (left of the main entrance).
• The accommodation is accessed from the bar with a step (12cm) down into a corridor and a step (5cm) up into a narrow stairway to the bedrooms on the first floor.
• We can assist guests with luggage when showing you to your room.
Main Entrance & Reception
•We have two paved entrances to the inn, there is ramp access off the street through the lawned garden. The main pub entrance to the right has a paved surface a small raised lip at the double door way (only one of the doors is usually open (81cm), the other (81cm) can be opened on request) there is a small step (2cm) up to the carpeted bar area inside.
• The other entrance is past the smoking shelter up a lit corridor with a low step (12cm) into the bar to the right and a low step (5cm) to the accommodation entrance to the left. Both entrances off the corridor have doors which are open during opening hours.
• The beer garden at the front of the building has picnic style seating and the main lawned area is slightly sloped. The sides of the garden are accessible by stepping up onto them, there is a graduated step along the garden either side of the grassed area.
• On arrival, guests are required to complete our visitors book and are then shown to their rooms and our facilities are explained.
•We have 9 guest bedrooms, all of which are on the first floor accessed by narrow (80cm) stairway from the ground floor.
• There are 6 steps to a small landing where there are another 6 steps up to one room and another 5 steps the other way to two rooms, the stairs have grab rails. The rest of the rooms are up another 2 steps and through a doorway, all stairs and landings are carpeted.
Public Areas - General (Internal)
• The bar area is on one level, the lounge bar and public bar are mostly carpeted with a non-slip vinyl floor around the public bar. The public bar also has a metal foot rail around the base 17cm high.
• The disabled toilet is off the bar and is fully equipped with hand rails and emergency call button. The baby changer is a flip down table, low level sink and mirror are also in situ.
• There is also a mens toilet next to this.
• The lounge bar is accessed through an open doorway 73cm wide from the public bar.
• There is a slate floor to the left of the lounge bar which leads to the men’s toilets (74cm width) to the right and on the left a 95cm wide entrance into a corridor to the ladies toilets. The carpet resumes to the end of the restaurant area.
Dining Room
• Breakfast is served in lounge bar on the ground floor and is accessed from the corridor and doorway from the accommodation. The entry is level and the door width is 78cm. There are baby high chairs available if required.
• All the tables are movable and are a honey coloured oak finish, some are 70cm high and some have a clearance of 60cm. The chairs have padded seats and are open sided and movable. We do however have some fixed upholstered seating in booths around the walls of the lounge bar. The public bar has the same seats and tables with the addition of small stools and bar stools.
• Menus have large print and can be read out if required. Vegetarian, vegan, gluten free and all other diets can be catered for.
• There is background music in the public bar and sometimes the television is on when there is sporting event on SKY sports.
Laundry
Laundry facilities are not available on the premises but there is a launderette within a 15 min uphill walk –Bude Coinwash; 2, Bramble Hill, Bude, Cornwall EX23 8DG. Tel: 01288 356011
Shop
The nearest shopping facility is the post office/shop within a 2 minute walk and the main shops in town are less than a 10 minute walk, with some slopes and steps to the town centre.
There are some larger supermarkets in and around Bude, and the town centre is well equipped with some high street chains and independant retail outlets.
Leisure Facilities
Summerleaze beach is a short, fairly level walk from the pub and there are steps down onto the sand. There is an outdoor tide pool with banisters and rails on the steps into it.
There is an indoor pool available out towards the A39 on the approach to Bude town centre.

Bedrooms
There is central heating throughout the pub and in all the rooms. The temperature of each guest bedroom is controlled by thermostatic controls on the radiators. All rooms and bathrooms are carpeted (unless specified) and furniture can be moved around on request. All rooms are ensuite.
• There is a small double room (Crystal Spring) at the top of the stairs with a small step on the threshold and a metal strip separating the bathroom vinyl with the bedroom carpet. The bathroom has a step up shower cubicle.
• Off the small landing to the left, up the small set of stairs there are 2 double rooms. The room to the right (Ceres) has a level floor and 2 steps up into the bathroom each 12cm high. There is a step up shower cubicle.
• The bedroom to the left (President Garfield) is level entry with 2 steps into the bathroom both 12cm high, there is an over bath shower.
• Beyond these 2 rooms are the other 6 bedrooms accessed through a fire door that opens towards you with two steps up one is 12cm the other is 10cm high.
• Through the door there is a long level corridor with the rooms off it, the fire exit is at the end of the corridor out into the back garden.
• The 1st door on the right is a twin room (Concezione) with level floor with vinyl on the bathroom floor and a step up shower cubicle.
• The 1st door on the left from the corridor is a double room (Giles Lang) with 2 steps up in to the bathroom and a shower over a bath.
• The next room on the right is another double room (Wild Pigeon), carpeted floor throughout and steps upto the bathroom 10cm and 9cm with a step up into the shower cubicle.
• The next room along on the same side is a twin room (Capricorno) with carpeted floor a step of 20cm into the bathroom and a step into shower cubicle.
• The end room on the right hand side is a single (Elizabeth) it is carpeted throughout and has a sliding door to the bathroom and a step up shower cubicle.
• The end room on the left hand side of the corridor is a twin room (Llandaff) this is also carpeted throughout and the step up to the bathroom is 12cm and the shower cubicle has a step up into it.
• All the television are digital with remote control and teletext
• Armchairs are provided in the rooms
• The carpets in the rooms are fitted and short pile.
• All rooms are fitted with lockable fire doors.
